I much prefer the coupe myself. But when I tried for insurance, a coupe was about £500 difference, but when I tried again a couple months ago (for shits and giggles) it was the same as a saloon
Its totally up to you mate, but for about £600 you will get a nice 316/8 but chance are it will be the saloon because the coupes make more money.
You've seen it before, but just for the hell of it, here is the 318 saloon I had, which coincidentally, I paid £600 for...
1994 BMW 318i SE. - Bought for £600 from my Dad when I was 16. Car hadn't been MOT'd for 2 years when I put it though, bottom ball joint was all that was needed. Not at gutless as people think, but still not as quick as a 6 cylinder model.
I have driven a hell of a lot of cars, yet not one would I rather have over my BMW. Well, maybe 1 or 2...
I am paying £1600 on a 1994 BMW 318i. Own policy. First car. With Quinn.
The good thing with Quinn is, even on a TPFT policy, you are still insured to drive any vehicle, if it already insured. Regardless of age etc. Comes in handy. My 23 y.o mate who is fully comp cant even drive any vehicle yet and I can
A 1.4 Corsa Sport is always going to a lot for a new driver, given how many new drivers have wrapped them around trees or crashed them. A know a few mew drivers with Corsas and they are all paying over the £2k mark for insurance and that is in a very very very low risk area. Price you have to pay to drive a Corsa/Saxo etc.
I read that you were gonna keep in standard because there isn't many 'unmolested' Corsa Sports around. Fair play to you, you sound like a level headed driver rather than a chav boy racer. Shame the minority of Corsa/Saxo drivers have ruined it for real drivers like you and I.
The last of the E36 compact came fitted with the 1.9 8v engine.
Don't always believe the badge. The 323 is actually a de-restricted 2.5.
As a previous 316/318 owner (albeit a saloon) - I would highly recommend one. Best car I have ever driven. The build quality is amazing, the ride is a very comfortable one and the drive is superb. As someone stated, the rear suspension is the same as an e30, so bits are usually cheap and easy to find. Some parts are interchangeable throughout the range, such as the Z3. The E36 and Z3 are pretty much the same underneath. Nothing major tends to go wrong with these cars. But do check the rear arches for rust and the boot lid. The rear suspension turrets tend to rot, but with it being a low mileage late example, I don't think you need to worry. There are also a lot of BMW breakers and many a forum you can get help from.
The price is also very good, I would get in there quick because I promise, it won't be around for long. The car seems in a very good state with a few nice toys (PDC and electric windows/mirrors)

Well, 2008 was a good year for me. I turned 18. I passed my driving test. I got a good job. Start of the year was a little shit as I was just waiting for the above to happen.
But, 2009 will be the making of me. I will get the car I want, I will get the job I want, I will get my self into a physical shape I'm happy with, I will get fit, I will get my own place. I'm generally looking forward to 2009 and I hope the above wishes come true for me.
I'm not out tonight as I'm skint, but I am driving a few mates out and picking them up again.
But, New Years eve, I am going over to my mates Pub and getting FREE drinks all night because I'm his doorman for the night. But, all he wants me to do, is sit at the bar drinking and kick out the tossers.
